'Autobiography of the author of "Confessions of a Thug" ( a novel based on the Thugees).
Philip Meadows Taylor, a Liverpool boy, went to Bombay at the age of fifteen, first in a commercial house, before entering the service, as secretary, of the Nizam of Hyderabad in 1824.
He was also Times correspondent in India in the 1840s.
His first book, the attractive "Sketches of the Deccan", was followed by a series of novels based on his great knowledge of Indian life and character.
Taylor was also a historian, civil administrator and officer.
"This well written and engaging autobiography throws much light on Central India in the heyday of the Raj." '
