“Of Russian, French and – to some extent – Ethiopian origin, Peter Ustinov was born in London in 1921 and educated at Westminister School.  During the war he served in the Royal Sussex Regiment and the R A O C.  Familiar to a world-wide public as a brilliant playwright, versatile actor, director, set and costume designer, he was an entertainer of wide and diversified talent.  He received the Benjamin Franklin Medal from the Royal Society of Arts in 1957 and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a member of the British Film Academy.  A thoughtful, philosophical citizen of the world, Peter Ustinov is a tireless worker and propagandist for UNICEF.  He was awarded the Order of the Smile (Warsaw, 1974) for dedication to the idea of international assistance to children, received a CBE in 1975 and was Rector of Dundee University for six years.”
