The City Boy

by Herman Wouk

Jonathan Cape, 1956 [First Edition (English)], hardcover, dust-jacket

Very Good Condition, a little edge and shelf wear, a little rubbing to edges and corners, minor foxing to end-papers, previous owners inscription on front end-paper, price-clipped dust-jacket shows some edge and shelf wear with some rubbing, bumping, creasing, chipping and small tears to edges and corners, small insect holes to edges and spine (see photographs)

"Herman Wouk's city boy suffers from two handicaps: he is too fat and too clever.  Both at school and at holiday camp he is ostracised.  But he bears his burdens cheerfully, and his final triumph, after many tribulations, is well preserved.
This is a funny book, because, after all, boys do have fun.  It is also a fine novel in which the parents and teachers and officials at the holiday camp are notably involved - some of them in dramatic incidents from which all touch of comedy is absent."
