“Frank Clune has ben off again on another of his modern voyages of exploration – this time to Holland.  Since the Dutch played a great part in discovering Australia 350 years ago, he argues, it was perhaps appropriate for an Australian now to “discover” Holland.  This is the log-book of his travels.
In the space of a few months, Clune saw much of the land that the energetic Dutch continue to reclaim from their old enemy, the sea; and he met many Dutchmen of all walks and conditions of life: scores of the people, both exalted and humble, who make the nation’s wheels go round.  He is as interesting when writing of the skipper of a fishing-boat with whom he went shrimping as when he describes interviews with such famous men as Willem Drees, the Prime Minister, or Albert Plesman, the president of K.L.M. Airlines.”
