“Nourlangie is in the Top-End of Australia’s Northern Territory, about 180 miles south-east of Darwin.  The surrounding country consists of plains, swamps, billabongs, hills, savannah scrub, rainforest and sandstone cliffs of the Arnhem Land escarpment with waterfalls of 700 feet.  Here after ten years release form the commercial jungles of the southern cities, Allan Stewart has found one of the few interesting and adventurous occupations left in this world – that of “White hunter”.
At Nourlangie Safari Camp, which he established in 1958, there averages about 400 tourists a year from America, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Britain and all Australian States.  Visitors to his camps go there to shoot or fish as well as to see corroborees and Aborigines living in their native state.  The countryside abounds with life; wild pigs; dingos, barramundi, geese, crocodiles and buffaloes.
More than 300,000 buffaloes roam the coastal plains east of Darwin.  Many weigh up to 2000 Ibs and the spread of their horns can exceed six feet – beasts that can beat a horse in soft ground form a standing start over the first 100 yards; that can turn in their own length to savagely gore a man or horse.”
