"Camel Drivers, river skippers, shanty-keepers, blade-shearers, fossickers - these have vanished from the Australian scene; and following them into the shadows are the swagmen, crocodile-shooters, buffalo-hunters, old-time drovers, and many other Outback types.
During his own adventurous career, George Farwell has worked, lived, and yarned with them, here, in the pages of Vanishing Australians, he vividly recalls all their colour and character, so that the memory of them will never fade.
"Dollypots and Dryblowers," "Quart-pots and Camp-ovens," "Shanties over the Hill," "Jumbucks and Billabongs," "Nose-pegs and Turbans' - these are the titles of a few chapters that help to build up a vivid and nostalgic picture of vanishing Australians."
