"This story was first written by the late W. A. Cawthorne about the year 1854 under the title "The Islanders".  During the latter part of the 1926 a book by another author was published called "The Islanders."  Whilst the latter has no bearing on the subject matter of this story, it was considered advisable to alter the title to "The Kangaroo Islanders", and so avoid any infringement under the "Copyright Act."
The story of the "The Islanders" is of historic value in that it describes the life of one of the most savage white communities that the British Empire, in recent years has seen.  The great unknown lands  of the South long exercised an attraction not only to scientific explorers and respectable traders but to the buccaneers and fierce adventurers of many nations."
