" When she was two years old, a little girl was raped by her stepfather, and for the next fourteen years she was continually abused, emotionally and physically, not only by her stepfather, but by her mother as well.
As Truddi Chase would put it, the child "went to sleep" at the age of two, and in her place, came a variety of persons, inhabiting the same body, but each with a distinct personality, and a distinct role to play in defence of the sleeping child.
For a while, the woman whose body they inhabited, the woman they chose to call truddi Chase, was unaware of their existence.  She married, had a child, and became a success in business.  But she was troubled by dizziness and headaches, and suffered long periods of amnesia.
Eventually she divorced and went to seek therapy.  It was then that she met Dr. Robert A. Phillips, Jr., a specialist in treating victims of sexual abuse, who discovered that Truddi Chase was  a multiple personality.
Because they care so deeply about the subject of child abuse, the Troops let the therapy sessions be videotaped for educational purposes, and they began to write a book about themselves for publication.  When Rabbit Howls is that book, and it is an amazing document.  Not only does it give us a remarkable look into the mind of a multiple personality, not only does it serve as a profoundly moving account of therapist and client, and not only is it a graphic depiction of the horrors of sexual abuse, it is also one of the most exciting accounts of revenge ever written."
