“This story relates the adventures and perils, the toils and difficulties of a pioneer missionary, and describes many of the cruelties, oppressions and wrongs which prevailed in Uganda in his day.
Since his death many changes have taken place. the country is now a British Protectorate, with a resident British Commissioner. A railway from the coast is in course of construction. Steamers ply on the Victoria Nyanza, and there has been a marvellous development of Christian work – perhaps the greatest in the annals of modern missionary enterprise.”
