“Environmental education programmes aim to develop an awareness and understanding of the uniqueness of our Australian fauna and flora, and of the need to conserve these.  They aim to further understanding of both the interdependence of fauna and flora, and the disturbance of the balance of nature by man.  Environmental awareness programmes also aim to arrest thoughtless destruction and develop personal responsibility in conservation.
Our aim in preparing this study guide is to provide sufficient background information and suggested approaches to enable teachers, who have no previous experience in the area, to be able to tackle confidently one aspect of the Conservation topic, i.e., the study of Australian Native Flora.
Our intentions have not been to provide a field guide to Native plants.  Some field guides that are available and would be of help are listed in the Bibliography.”
