“In December 1960 I played in what was to me the greatest cricket finish ever to take place on a green field. Less than twelve months later I was to be concerned in another match that will never be surpassed for sheer excitement and fluctuating incident.
The first, the tied Test with the West Indies at Brisbane, was unique in that it was the first such result in over five hundred Test matches. The second gave Australia the rubber at Manchester in the fourth Test of the 1961 series against England and provided me with my greatest excitement as a player and captain since I have been travelling with Australian sides.”
