“This book was written following the many enquiries from people including children concerning the Aborigines whose hunting and cult sites lay about the foothills of the Dandenongs and the Upper Yarra River.  Any known literature does not separate these from the rest of the Wurundjeri but there were variations int eh many groups, and those of the Upper Yarra were the ‘true’ Wurundjeri: they were also one of the fiercest and had an individual dialect.  Unlike northern tribes, they had no need to chant for rain; they did not use the didgeridoo but used clapsticks at festivals and beat drums made of animal skins stretched over the knees.”
