And There’s Opal Out There

by Ed Waller

Lansdowne Press, 1969, [First Edition], lightly illustrated with line drawings, two-page illustrated title page, hardcover, dustjacket

Very Good Condition, some edge and shelf wear, some rubbing and bumping to edges and corners, no inscriptions, a little foxing to endpapers, faint finger prints on title page,  dustjacket shows some edge and shelf wear with some rubbing, bumping, chipping, closed tears and creasing, small missing parts (see photographs)

“Not quite a mining manual, not quite an autobiography, and not altogether fiction, this book faithfully records the accents of the outback and the vagaries of opal mining.  The “hard cases”, the scavengers, the “triers” and the lucky ones who dig their way to fortune… Here is the lure of opal, which defies easy finding.  Where do they dig? Here, there, anywhere!  Once place is a good as another – maybe!  For those who might want to pit their luck against this “maybe”, the illustrations show what you can expect and how you should tackle it.”
