"After more than four years of the most fearful war in the history of the world the end came almost unexpectedly - with dramatic suddenness.  At five o'clock on the morning of 11th November 1918 Marshal Foch and Admiral Wemyss, representing the Allies, concluded an armistice with the civil and military representatives of Germany.
Almost every aspect of World War I has now been written about, but Brigadier Barclay's book is a fresh study of the last campaign and of the Armistice which was to affect the entire shape and subsequent history of the twentieth century.  As in this author's earlier military study of a very different event, Battle 1066, he depicts in some detail the course of affairs which led up to his subject and the results which followed in its train."
