'From time immemorial arts and crafts have been exercised by the people of Indonesia. Each island, even each region has almost its own method and way of expressing them. The sense of art of the people finds an extensive field of work in the making of objects of daily use. Originally everybody made what was required for daily use. Having much time at their disposal and the certainty that the object would be of great use, was the reason for taking so much pain in the making of these objects. Even the most simple object became a product of the maker's ingenuity and artistic sense. He made his object not with the set purpose to become famous, but merely because he loved his work.
