“The first edition of Australian Aboriginal Decorative Art was published in 1938. The publication was issued in the first place because little information was available on the decorative art of Australian Aborigines and the Trustees of the Australian Museum felt that the booklet would be of assistance in meeting a demand for knowledge on this subject.
In this, the seventh, edition, a short account of Cape York sculpture has been incorporated, and one illustration has been replaced by two others. Most of the material described and illustrated is housed in the Australian Museum.”
