The Daily Telegraph Portfolio of Original Works By Artists Who Sailed With Captain Cook

The Daily Telegraph, 1970, [First Edition], full-colour reproductions throughout, hardcover, dustjacket

'One of the worlds best collections of these original works is held by the library of New South Wales in Sydney.  The Library rightly considers them priceless and, accordingly, they are not for public display.  Most have been seen only by a comparatively few fortunate students and authors.
But in this portfolio the Daily Telegraph gives everyone a chance to see these paintings.  Many are published here for the first time.  In chronological order they tell through the eyes of his artists the story of Cook;s adventures.  There are occasional gaps in the collection and we have augmented these by reproductions from collections in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and New Zealand.
It is appropriate the portfolio should appear in 1970 - the bi-centennial year of the discovery and formal possession of New South Wales by the famous Yorkshire voyager and explorer.  The works are unique and deserve to be seen by every schoolchild and adult who will enjoy, as participant or spectator, the Captain Cook celebrations throughout Australia.'
