“The Cham people, together with the Viet and Khmer peoples, can be found at the source of today’s Vietnamese people.  Furthermore, the Cham people built up a unique culture that loses nothing in comparison to other ancient and medieval Southeast Asian cultures.  This culture is a closely bound component of actual Vietnamese culture.  The Cham people have in the past shared in the struggle to create new life in Vietnam and are still today elbow to elbow with their fellow countrymen, engaged in creative labor.  A further reason for us to broaden our knowledge of the Cham people is that the Cham, being an Austronesian speaking people, constitute, together with a few other ethnic groups, a link between our country and insular Southeast Asia, at a time in which the multifarious relations between the two sides are becoming clearer…
In this album, researchers will be provided with an abundance of fundamental materials along with valuable general information concerning Cham sculpture and other plastic arts.  These materials may serve as the basis for further discussion and study.”
