'In range and quality the Far Eastern collection of Sir Harry and Lady Garner may fairly claim to be the finest assembled in this country since the last war. They have never been content to follow fashion. Even in the field of Chinese and Japanese porcelain, where the British excel, they have carefully selected things which pose a problem or extend our knowledge. It is however no accident that their pieces tend to be of the highest quality. In the field of cloisonne enamel the Garners have put together one of the two major collections in the world. Sir Harry is indeed the foremost authority on the subject and his book will remain for many years the standard work. It is fortunate that several of his finest pieces of the Ming Dynasty are now in the British Museum.'
