"...there is national importance as well as fascinating interest in the work of Charles Barrett and his wife.  They have taken us before into the woods and mountains and river countries in many parts of Australia, mostly those parts not so far from our own doors although so seldom visited.  Always they have given us into a lasting sympathy with some more Australian things.
Charles Barrett is an inherently modest person.  His quest of birds, butterflies and all living things in the air, in the sea and on the earth, has been that of the almost abashed student.  His eyes are wide about the beauty, the interest and the fittingness of the native life he sees and the sounds he hears.  But there is nothing of timidity in the approach.  He looks upon 'the bright face of danger' without fear or at least without any thought of withdrawal.  He will go anywhere and take any pains for his photograph or his pen picture of the unseen or the little known part of Australian life."
