“Enfield is part of the great plain north of Adelaide, the settlement of which proceeded about the same time and in the same way. It is a story of speculators and yeomen farmers. Enfield was but one of several villages which arose in the early 1840s. This history traces briefly the history of the villages before dealing more specifically with the area contained within the boundaries of the Corporation of the City of Enfield. Built around a framework of solid research the author records and analyses the changes which have taken place since settlement. The emphasis is on people in real life situations. Comprehensive in concept, this history is an excellent complement to the author’s History of Salisbury and Districts published in 1980.”
