'The Shire of Morwell was established in 1892.  Almost a century later, in 1990, its name was changed to the City of Morwell.  This book commemorates the centenary of the municipal district by telling the story of its people and Council.  The area covered by the City of Morwell falls into three distinct sub-regions: the coal-winning area to the north, in which the city of Morwell is situated, the flat agricultural lands in the centre, and the hill country on each side of the Morwell River valley and to the south.  This history describes the connections between these three regions.'
