“The Central West of New South Wales is rich in many ways, but particularly in its wealth of fine historic buildings from Australia’s colonial days. It was from the Bathurst Plains that much of the south and south-west of the unknown colony was conquered by courageous explorers who found and named rivers, mountains and plains and made expansion possible for the crowded settlement at Port Jackson.
It is fortunate that many of these fine historic buildings of the Central West survived the depredations of ‘progress’ and hopefully they will continue to do so. This book shows but a small amount of Australia’s architectural heritage but serves as a reminder to the achievements of the men and women who wrought so much out of the rough, tough and tumble decades between 1820 and 1880.”
