“In 1923, 51 year old widower, Charles Miller, and his two sons, Dave 18 and Bob 12, left South Australia for north Queensland.  Living in a small tin hut, they cleared 150 acres of virgin scrub with axe, saw and mattock to grow sugar cane.  In later years a railway line curved around the site of their first homestead, the spot becoming known as Homestead Bend.  This is Dave’s story.  Following in the footsteps of his famous uncle, Bass Baritone, Peter Dawson, Dave excelled at Pulteney Street School.  An exciting year spent droving preceded the move to Queensland.  Then came dramatic navy service during World War II.  In later years, challenging situations as an insurance adjuster rounded out a most eventful life.
