"Olaf Ruhen, author of Mountains in the Clouds, is well qualified to write on Papua and Australian New Guinea. He has travelled through some of the remotest areas of this region - on one expedition he sailed seven hundred miles up the Sepik and met tribes who did not know that white men existed. He has also carried out extensive research into the history of New Guinea, the world's second largest island, and has questioned many statements of historians and journalists of the past - such as the story of the fattening and eating of a group of shipwrecked Chinese, which he discusses in the opening pages of Mountains in the Clouds.
His travels and his studies are reflected in the vivid and colourful pages of this popularly written history of Australia's Guinea territories."
