"At the court of inquiry, which opened in October, 1954, to investigate the crashes of two Comet air liners earlier in the year, Sir Lionel Heald, Q.C., appearing for the Crown said: "Some may remember a book written by Nevil Shute and seeing a film called No Highway. It was the story of a scientist who said that an aircraft was going to suffer from disastrous fatigue.
The story described how the captain went round making an examination with a torch. the scientist told him it was no good him looking in that way. He would see nothing until it happened."
