“Lake Elder Station was situated in the wastes of sandhills to the east of Lake Frome, in the far North-East of South Australia, where the average rainfall is four inches a year.  Here Myrtle Rose White lived for seven lonely years.  While her husband, the Boss, battled to maintain the five thousand head of cattle under his command, she brought up her children – the Little’un and the two boys.
Out of her experiences Mrs White produced one of the classics of the Australian Outback – No Roads Go By, the book which Flynn of the Inland later described as one of the most potent forces assisting him in his drive to collect funds to maintain and extend the then infant Flying Doctor Service.”
