Foreword:
“Let me be quite frank. The only reason why I directed that something must be done about the aborigines of Malaya was that they had become a vital factor in the Emergency.
Our job at the time was to destroy the terrorists, and this was absorbing all our valuable resources. We certainly had too much on our hands to think of the welfare of primitive tribes, however desirable it might be from an administrative point of view. In fact, nobody had ever bothered much about them, that is except for one man, a young anthropologist named Pat Noone. He had discovered a tribe inhabiting the deep jungle of the main range, which is some of the most difficult and inaccessible jungle in the world. He had lived among them, and he had disappeared mysteriously.”
