“One Wet Season is not really a “story”. It comprises fragments from men’s lives, of our present day, as lived in our own Australian Kimberleys. It is a story of the yearly or perhaps rather seasonal, meeting of men, form “over the range”, and “along the Fitzroy”, at the tiny port pf Derby, there to be isolated for some three months throughout every wet season, just waiting for “the Wet” to end, and “the Dry” to come. It is a seasonal phase known only to the extreme north of Australia, particularly to the north-west.”
