'The Mediaeval Crime Museum in Rothenburg o.d.T. is not only a special museum, but also the only law museum in the Federal Republic of Germany. The collection comprises legal antiquities from the German-speaking area. In addition to documentation on state and constitutional law, especially civil degradation penalties and police law are not of prime interest to us. Precisely the latter are very revealing and informative with respect to the notions, law, customs and culture of our forefathers from many centuries. The exhibits further include legal antiquities such as instruments of torture and for the execution of sentences, costly books, graphic art, documents of emperors, princes, the nobility and towns, the law of coats of arms, seals and crafts and trades, patents of nobility and armorial bearings, caricatures of the judiciary, juristic ex libris, schools and their punishments, law and justice in the medal, legal symbolism, and many another special field from seven centuries."
