โThis book consists mainly of photographs of living animals in the Zoological Society of Londonโs collections at Regentโs Park and Whipsnade.ย The majority were taken by the late F. W. Bond, who was Accountant to the Zoological Society for over 30 years and a keen animal photographer.ย After his death his collection of more than 5,000 negatives of animal subjects was presented to the Societyโs Library by his widow, and from these typical Zoo animals have been chosen.
The order in which the illustrations have been placed follows as far as possible the natural order of living creatures, as set out in most recognised books on Natural History.โ
