“In this Murray Valley series an attempt is made to provide a comprehensive but relatively detailed pictures of the major economic resources of the region.  The thirty-eight separate maps of this atlas presented on twenty sheets demonstrate the potentialities of the area and, at the same time, indicate the Limitations imposed by the environmental and other developmental factors. 
Some of the sheets have been prepared with a view to more direct planning applications: and the series, as a whole, should prove useful in guiding decisions on the location of developmental works, amenities, business or industrial premises, new farming or mining ventures.
This series of resources maps is a unique amongst Australian economic geography publications.  Apart from the Atlases published by the Regional Boundaries Committee, Victoria (1944) and the State Economic Planning Authority, Tasmania (1947) which cover the whole state, no region in Australia has been treated so fully hitherto, a treatment which the largest and most important river basin obviously merits….”
