“This history does not claim to be all-encompassing.  For the main part it is a record of the land, its families and the development of horticulture, with reference also to aspects of district life and the gold rushes of the 1850s and 1880s.  It is unfortunate that the real character of a community can rarely come to life in its history.  While researching this history it was obvious that the true “flavour” of the district is best seen through its personalities and the wealth of the local folklore and reminiscence.”
