“The face of Australia is rapidly changing. Our old homesteads, farm buildings, woolsheds, townships and stockyards are part of the quickly vanishing aspects of rural Australia.
To sketch the material for this book, Bruce Swann has travelled from the vast red plains of the Northern Territory to the green paddocks of southern Tasmania. All of the drawings and colour washes were sketched on site. The oil paintings were completed in his Adelaide studio form sketchbook notes.
This volume of more than 240 drawings, watercolours and oil paintings accurately records architectural detail. The book is therefore of historical importance.
It is fortunate that the artist has an eye for commonplace and humble subjects; these are the scenes so often ignored by the more traditional impressionists.”
