“The Age of Churchill might also be called ‘The Churchillian Century’ since it covers the last hundred years of British history, from about 1850 to the present day. This is the period spanned jointly by Sir Winston Churchill and his father Lord Randolph and the trilogy endeavours to see their lives and careers as a consecutive whole.
It follows the method devised by Churchill himself in his ‘Marlborough’, i.e. it gives a history of political ideas and related social, economic and other concepts as they developed in Britain and shaped its face in the last 100 years. Through this broad and evenly spread riband runs the ‘scarlet thread’ of Churchill’s life, a life which has been involved in practically every significant aspect of the evolution of British political thought in this century.”
