“In a series of large scale reproductions this book displays the full panorama of Britain’s beauty and the traditional life and work of the countryside, as recorded by leading photographers.
It has been planned to comprise all the different types of scenery – mountain, Lakeland, heath and moor, downland and plain; the grandeur of Scottish, Welsh and Irish landscape, the varied character, changing from country to country, of England, north, south, east and west.
In addition a special effort has been directed to giving as complete a picture as possible of the different types of country dweller and of their activities. The placid life of the village, the yearly round of work on the farms, sports, pastimes, old customs and crafts all have their place.
This book is divided into four main sections, each with an introduction by Brian Vesey-Fitzgerald, and a running commentary accompanies the individual illustrations.”
