“This history of St, Columba’s Church, Hawthorn, has been written to honour the founders of the church and to record the events and achievements of the eighty years which have passed since the original church was licensed and opened for worship.
The task of writing this account of our church has been made easier by the help of three people and I wish to acknowledge my indebtedness to them…
At times, during the writing of this book, some difficulties were experienced because of certain deficiencies in the church records. In 1969 Canon Correll drew attention to the fact that all the early minute-books were missing and appealed unavailingly for information from anyone who might know their whereabouts. It was interesting to find that the cash-books have been carefully preserved, but regrettable that no complete set of copies of the Parish Messenger could be found. I feel that an archivist should be appointed to look after future records.”
