"The Feast is the story of a common impulse which governed the actions of certain people, and led them into safety at a moment when they were in great, though un-apprehended, danger, In midsummer, 1947, in St. Sody, North Cornwall, there was a disastrous cliff-side and Pendizack Manor Hotel on the cliff-top was completely destroyed. In the form of a flash-back the relationships between the various characters are exploded, and the series of plots and incidents evolved which led up to the night of the feast, and to the disaster which spared or killed the respective individuals. the seven who died when the Tregoylan Rocks fell knew more of their peril than did those who escaped, but they were irresponsive to the frail unity which saved the rest."
