'Twelve years ago Beryl Cook was given a child's painting set and she has painted compulsively ever since. Here is a selection of the works which have delighted the public since her 'discovery' in 1975. Scenes of her native Plymouth naturally predominate - drag acts in the local pub, sailors on the Hoe, holiday-makers on the beach, cafes, shops, her family, friends and cats - but she is not confined to local subjects; there are scenes in London, a posthumous portrait of Elvis and a delightful Jubilee picture of the Queen dancing with Prince Philip. The results are often satirical but never cruel, and always very funny.'
