“This book portrays the action packed experiences of the Australian delegation which apart from attending the first World Wilderness Congress, camped on the bank of the River Limpopo in the Botswana Wilderness. They roamed among the large animal kingdom and at one stage the party was caught in the path of no less than 350 charging elephants which came to within 40 metres before veering off. With expert guides the party went into areas in Botswana where no other Australians had been known to visit.
The tour led by the author was organised in conjunction with the First World Wilderness Congress held in Johannesburg. Dick Roughsey received a standing ovation following the delivery of his paper at the Congress. The Queensland delegates presented papers urging support for the setting aside of the Cape York Wilderness project. The First World Wilderness Congress was successful, exceeding all expectations, with 26 countries represented.”
