"Founded in London in 1834 as The South Australian Literary and Scientific Association, it was renamed The Adelaide Philosophical Society in 1853 and when the title of "Royal" was granted by Her Majesty, Queen Victoria, in 1880, the Society became known as The Royal Society of South Australia.  It was incorporated in 1883."
